Today I press on with work on a granite ‘companion’ piece, a dog resting next to his master. I am re working an existing sculpture and trying to capture the essence of a canine…the trick will be to utilize the existing stone, carving within another sculptor’s confines…no easy task, but I think I can get it. This too puts me in a better understanding breathing art and spirit into stone…worth it.

…today was a new beginning. Awakening with a freshness of new positive steps, relationships; like artwork need nurturing and patience. Life is that way. So after meeting about new renovations in the bathroom, off I go to carve a granite canine. A beautiful day and now looking forward to several new bold steps. Upon completion of that [art of the day…home to finish the bedroom…then as bonus…color, yes oils…even the smells of it, enticing…

A sculptor’s work…

It seems a sculptor’s work is never done, and yes, that is a good thing.

Today with Jesus and the Angels the task at hand was actual shipping. The logistics of it and gravity, physics and flying marble sculptures.

The angels had already been placed on bases of 2 X 4′s and reinforced so their loading on the truck was smooth and uneventful. The crate we had custom built was able to be shifted from “Faith” to “Hope” with no problem. So away they went on the truck to be crated for final shipping to Nashville.

The problem was Jesus. Well not in that sense, but in the logistical sense. How to strap and raise the sculpture as well as strap it safely in the truck for across Elberton, Ga trsansport.

Of course gale force winds and driving rain. And yes we loaded all 800 lbs in my truck.

The all arrived safely.

Jesus and Hope

The day started with a nice drive to Elberton..getting routine but also a difference of an actual commute to work. Keywest is a paradise of sorts…surrounded by stone, all of the highest quality and most rough cut blocks weigh well over the 20 ton range. Cranes and chains and stone for daze.
So I go to work…yesterday had me in an uptight kind of way..so much still left to do before shipping the three up North for the final work phase with the Client.
I worked through it and found much pleasure in coming out the other side of the “Doubt Mountain”.
Removing parts and gaining confidence. The pieces are really starting to come together as a cohesive sculpture.

A Sculptor’s Dream

So the idea of this venture is to get my physical, mental and spiritual process out in blog form. So much of sculpture is the physical yet all flows…even in stone. My goal in this will be to explain actual techniques as well as the thoughts and emotions that play into them.

Also the ever growing knowledge of tools and applications.

In short, a never ending dream…
